This is a hard one for me to answer. I’m guessing it is because I have spent so much time connecting with my characters I don’t even know where to start.
The obvious choice will be Fatima. Her struggles as a sixteen year old Hausa girl caught up in power struggles of evil men. How such a young woman has to fight to survive despite all odds is a story in itself.
Then I think of Rekia, Kurum Daya, Joy and I go, there is a story there! Kadiatu, also. Where do I start?
The struggles of exceptional women are not the end of it, there is also men such as; the Old Man (a favorite of mine), Hassan, Terfa and of course Musa.
So what is my story about? Well without really wanting to sound like a promotional jiggle, read the book. It is better that way.
